Something To Wine About – South Africa Wine Tasting

13 August 2010

Waterford Estate winesIt’s hard not to get excited about a 5 day (7 if accommodation option included) gourmet and wine lovers tour of South Africa’s Cape Town and surrounding area for both disabled and able-bodied travellers.

There can be few things that better good food, award winning wines and sunshine when you put them all together. Our friends in Cape Town have done just that. If you’re in South Africa, and have some time to spare, this is one not to miss. Each day on this special south africa wine tour is essentially a separate tour. We have linked them all together to provide the ultimate food and wine tour in and around Cape Town. If you’ve only got one day to spare, then choose the day you want from the below itinerary and only do that one. It would though be a great shame to miss out on all the others.

You’ll be collected from your hotel in Cape Town in the morning and returned there each day after that days wine and gourmet tour.

This can be added as an extra segment onto any of the other tours we’re showing, or simply booked as an addition to your own personal travels, if you’re already in South Africa. All transfers and Cape Town wine tasting tour costs are included in the price, so all you have to pay for in addition to that is the cost of your lunch and lunchtime beverages.

It’s a tour that’s too good to miss!

5 Day South Africa Wine Tasting Tour Itinerary

Buitenverwachting Estate vineyardDay 1 – Constantia Valley

(If acommodation option chosen, day 1 is airport-to-hotel transfer), else…

Collect guests from hotel and proceed to the Constantia Valley area where our cape town wine tour begins. Here the original wine estate was established back in the late 1600’s. We have a wine tasting at Groot Constantia. Then continue to Klein Constantia, for a tasting of Vin de Constance, this is a must – Napoleon and royalty drank this centuries ago. Third tasting of the day is at Buitenverwachting Estate followed by lunch at the gourmet Constantia Uitsig restaurant or Le Colombe finishing with a final tasting at Steenberg Estate.

Today we head to the famous Stellenbosch region and do chocolate and wine tasting at Waterford Estate. Then we continue over the Hellshoogte mountains to a Olive and wine pairing at Tokara Estate, we then go down into the Franschhoek area for lunch at Boschendal followed by a cheese and masters wine tasting at Fairview.

We head to Paarl today and visit KWV for a food & wine pairing followed by a visit to Nederberg Estate.
We have lunch at Bosman’s restaurant at Grand Roche hotel followed by a final tasting at Laborie Estate.

Day 4 – Tulbagh

A visit to the small town of Tulbagh, that mostly collapsed during the earthquake of September 1969. Now rebuilt in its former glory. Visit Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate for a sparkling wine tasting. Then to Manly Private Cellar for a tasting and then to Paddagang for lunch and a tasting of their of wine, with their interestingly labelled bottles.

Day 5 – Breedekloof

Today we visit the Breedekloof area just over the DuToitskloof mountains, for a what we call “brandewyn & soetes” tastings, these are the Brandy and dessert wines. We start with a brandy tasting in the town of Worcester at KWV. We then drive to  Du Preez, for a tasting of their Hannepoort, then off to Badsberg for a taste of their Jeripego and red muscadel. Lunch in the area.

(If accommodation option chosen, day 6 is hotel-to-airport transfer)

As always, all good things must come to an end as this is where your Cape Town wine tour ends. Remember this is a sample tour, your can mix and match or just take a day if you want, it’s up to you.

We can design a tour around the connoisseurs special estates request. This can be added to any tour or even just one day can be added. Remove the standard wine tasting day on any of the tours and substitute a gourmet wine day to any of the areas above.
